Thirty minutes south of Beaufort is the Spring Island estate, a flourishing private nature preserve for residents and golf enthusiasts. To Liz and Jack, this serene island represents a familiar oasis where they spent their first out-of-town trip together and fell in love. Gleaning inspiration from the colors and tone of the live oak forests and weaving waterways, Liz and Jack threw a romantic seaside soiree bursting with florals and unforgettable memories.
Driving up to the Spring Island Club on the Old Tabby Links golf course, we were overtaken by the salty breeze rolling off the sunlit shore. We met our beaming bride in the clubhouse where she was getting dolled up with her pups at her feet. In her slinky silk slip, she strolled outside with her bridesmaids to raise a glass of Veuve Clicquot. The ladies made a toast to their bride and nudged Liz into the bridal suite so they could see her in her show-stopping Lazaro dress. Stealing our breath, Liz emerged in a French corset bodice and a full tulle skirt. The iridescent satin corset hugged her figure perfectly, accentuated by the romantic floral corsages draped on her shoulders. Completing the look she wore her grandmother’s antique ring on her right hand and a diamond bracelet gifted from Jack’s mom on her wrist.
Meanwhile, the groomsmen were straightening their ties and ensuring Jack had all the support he needed. Donning his gold bee cufflinks (a gift from Liz), Jack took one last sip of his craft beer and headed outside for the first look. Looking out into the expansive vista rich with green marsh grasses and surrounding islands, Jack heard Liz’s voice from behind. Turning to the cinematic image of Liz against the far-reaching backdrop, he almost lost his breath. Liz laughed at his reaction and rushed in to hug him. Gathering her flirty tulle skirt she marched in a circle so he could see the full effect of her gown. Nearly starstruck, Jack managed to pull himself together and kissed his bride.
The smitten couple pulled at our heartstrings as they paraded around the grounds. Looking like a painting in the Louvre, Liz smiled with her masterpiece bouquet blooming at her waistline. The purple lilac, pastel poppies, and peach ranunculus played impeccably with the satin sheen of her corset and the white petals falling from her shoulders. Jack looked like a match for his queen in his dapper tux with a satin lapel and pastel boutonniere. Arriving to the scene adorned with floral collars, Moose and Harleigh were elated to see their parents. The happy family of four snuggled in close while the bridal party cheered them on from the side. Flocking around Liz in their mint green mismatched dresses and monochrome bouquets, the bridesmaids punctuated every natural color in the surrounding landscape. The sharp groomsmen joined the bridesmaids for a wedding party portrait, sending up a joyous bridal party cry before they walked up the aisle together.
Venturing further into the serene Spring Island estate, the guests boarded their shuttles and headed to the ceremony on the Old Tabby Links golf course. Under the shaded canopies of looming oak trees, they sat back in their wooden garden chairs flanked by whimsical yellow, peach, and lilac florals. Happily zooming around the prestigious golf course on their carts, the groomsmen dismounted their vehicles and joined the bridesmaids. The sound of the string quartet flooded the air, prompting Jack to the top of the aisle where he waited for Liz. Emerging from the black sprinter van with her attendees supporting her tulle skirt, Liz marched up the hill opposite the arbor. Jack was moved to tears by the ethereal vision of his bride encompassed by the majesty of live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Liz floated up the aisle with her father and met Jack at the blooming arbor. Their friends, family, and obedient pups savored every moment and swooned when the couple said “I do.” Glowing with love, the newlyweds kissed and strolled down the aisle as their guests showered them in soft white petals.
Like a triumphant parade, everyone followed the couple and marched up the gravel road to cocktail hour. Pulling their newlywed parents along, Moose and Harleigh were excited to explore another nook of the Old Tabby Links golf course. Greeted with flutes of champagne, the guests took in the stunning contrast of the luxe decor and the landscape’s historic ruins. The petal-embellished pink tablecloths, cheerful yellow umbrella, and cane-back dining chairs added a romantic touch of life to the aged surroundings. The fabulous guests mingled and moseyed about the ruins, taking turns hugging and kissing the glowing newlyweds. Creating a New Orleans second line, the band members arrived with their brass horns to lead the couple and their guests to the reception area.
Taking their time noticing every stunning detail, the guests walked around the sailcloth tent captivated by the floor-to-ceiling floral magic. Rustic planters with deliciously perfumed lavender and tall olive trees encircled the dance floor, while white lanterns overgrown with green ivy hung from the ceiling. Tufted French furniture and petal-embellished pillows added a cozy touch to the space, making it as inviting as it was luxurious. With the help of Ellen Robinson Events our wedding florist bride made her floral dreams come true with a two-tiered centerpiece bursting with lilacs, yellow ranunculus, and peach garden roses. The sage green wall behind the bar was assembled with asymmetrical window boxes and shelving featuring technicolor flowers, potted plants, and gold bee ornaments (a nod to Liz’s beloved pollinators!). Juicy green grapes, blackberries, and red pears were strewn across the bar, making the sensorial scene even more delicious to marvel at.
Intoxicated by the opulent atmosphere, everyone lounged back on the French furniture for the couple’s first dance. Surrounded by their adoring friends and family, Liz and Jack twirled and rocked to Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic.” Liz and her father shared a special dance, followed by Jack and his mother in her hot pink gown. The two urged Liz and her mother to join them, so the four shared a group hug and finished their first dances together. Commencing dinner with his welcome speech, Liz’s dad thanked their loved ones for coming and officially welcomed Jack into the family. The guests savored their dinner and the excellent ambiance, catching one another up on their lives and making sure to peel off to catch the sunset on the coastal horizon.
Ready to let loose and dance the night away, Liz changed into a fabulous cocktail dress with petal appliques and feather trim. She took to the stage with her enamored husband, moving and grooving in her sassy block heels. Jack and his groomsmen stormed the dance floor, singing the words to every song and giving praise to the Pure Party Band. In their iridescent blue dresses, the singers jumped on the dance floor to pass the mic, ensuring everyone had their moment of stardom – and with fuzzy boas and heart-shaped sunglasses circulating the party, the guests looked as fabulous as they felt. Overtaken by the heat of the moment, Jack took off his tux and launched it across the floor. After losing a layer he danced a little harder, and ended up ripping his pants! Closing the night like rockstars, Jack and Liz stage-dived into the crowd, knowing their loved ones would always be there to lift them up. The guests emptied the tent so the couple could share one last dance in private. Looking around in amazement Jack and Liz held each other close, sealing in all the magic while knowing there is so much more to come.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. McDowell! This one is going down in Spring Island history!
